Zachary Bluestone

Nominated to the Eastern District of Missouri
On May 6, 2025, President Trump nominated Zachary Bluestone to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri.

Biography
Bluestone earned his B.S. from Georgetown University in 2009, his M.B.A. from the University of Oxford in 2011, and his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 2016. He also interned for Senator Orrin Hatch from 2015 to 2016, during Hatch’s tenure as president pro tempore of the Senate.
Legal Experience
After graduating from law school, Bluestone served as a law clerk for Judge Raymond W. Gruender of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eight Circuit from 2016 – 2018. In 2017, he also worked as a Fellow at the James Wilson Institute.
In 2018, Bluestone signed a letter supporting Justice Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court nomination as a former student of his at HLS.
He then served as the Deputy Solicitor General in the Missouri Attorney General’s Office from 2018 – 2020, working under then–Attorney General Josh Hawley. During that time, he also participated in the office’s Federalism Unit, which aimed to “limit overregulation and federal interference”. Since 2020, Bluestone continues to serve as the Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri.
Bluestone lacks the 12 years legal experience that the American Bar Association deems to be fit for federal judgeship.
