On June 29, 2026, President Trump nominated Gregory Cook to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama.


Biography 

Cook received a B.A. from Duke University in 1984 and a J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1991.

Legal Experience

In law school, Cook served as an editor for the Federalist Society’s Journal of Law and Public Policy. After graduating, he joined Balch & Bingham, LLP, where he became a partner in 1998. In 2000, Cook traveled to Florida to assist in hand recounting ballots as a volunteer attorney for the Bush v. Gore legal battle. Cook has also served as legal counsel to the Jefferson County GOP and general counsel to the Alabama Republican Party. In 2023, he became an associate justice on the Alabama Supreme Court. He is also a United States Air Force veteran, reaching the rank of Captain.
