On August 28, 2024, President Biden announced his intent to nominate Elizabeth C. Coombe to the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York.
Biography
Coombe earned her B.A., summa cum laude, from Hamilton College in 1989 and her J.D.,cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School in 1992.
Legal Experience
After law school, Coombe clerked for two years for Judge Diana E. Murphy on the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota. Following her clerkship, she served as a staff attorney in the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Enforcement Division before becoming a trial attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Division, Commercial Litigation Branch. She then took on the role of Assistant U.S. Attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, where she continued until becoming an Assistant U.S. Attorney with an impressive tenure that lasted several years. She also worked as AUSA and also held the position as Chief of the Criminal Division. Currently, Coombe serves as the First Assistant United States Attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York.
