Funders Together for Housing Justice Champions Systemic Solutions Rooted in Racial and Housing Justice 

Funders Together for Housing Justice (previously Funders Together to End Homelessness), educates philanthropy on the link between homelessness and housing justice to push members’ thinking around issues of structural racism, white supremacy, and racial justice. Funders Together mobilizes its network of nearly 230 members to leverage their voices to influence policy and transform the philanthropic sector so that philanthropy funds not just advocacy, but also power-building, community organizing, and other activities related to anti-racist housing policy and housing justice.

Founded in 2010, Funders Together recently underwent an organization name change to better align with its steadfast commitment to housing justice as racial justice and being pro-Black, pro-Indigenous, and pro-LGBTQ+ in all its work. To support this, the organization equips philanthropic organizations with resources, learning opportunities, and advocacy tools to drive effective grantmaking and policy change, all through the lens of housing justice as racial justice. It emphasizes permanent housing solutions, public-private partnerships, supporting community organizing, ceding power and resources, and the inclusion of lived experience to create lasting impact.

“True justice and liberation cannot be achieved until we confront hard truths. We must hold ourselves accountable for how philanthropy — and all of us as gatekeepers to power and resources — operates,” said Amanda Misiko Andere, CEO of Funders Together for Housing Justice. “The system must be dismantled and then reoriented and reimagined to truly liberate how we resource communities. I have hope because many of us refuse to back down from diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice.”

Funders Together emphasizes the importance of transforming not just outcomes but also the processes by which decisions are made and resources are allocated by centering people most impacted by housing injustices. The organization advocates for a reimagined approach to philanthropy that is rooted in racial and housing justice, aiming to dismantle systemic barriers and empower communities.
