But in a sign that Mercer’s jurisprudence could veer away from Christensen’s, the liberal advocacy group Alliance for Justice voiced strong opposition to the Trump nominee. “Mercer’s professional record further reflects a disregard for environmental protections and the public lands that define much of Montana’s identity,” said Rachel Rossi, the organization’s president, in a written statement.
Rossi added that Mercer has “repeatedly represented mining and fossil fuel interests, defending polluters, undermining water protections, and enabling reckless exploitation of natural resources.”
