Alliance for Justice Remembers the Legacy of Justice David Souter

WASHINGTON, D.C., May 9, 2025 – Today the Supreme Court announced the passing of Justice David Souter at the age of 85.

Alliance for Justice President Rachel Rossi issued the following statement:

“Today Alliance for Justice remembers the life of Justice David Souter. As an organization, we opposed Souter’s nomination to the Supreme Court based on his record, but we were ultimately impressed with the integrity he brought to the bench. His commitment to honoring the Constitution and his recognition that the courts have an obligation toward crafting a ‘just society,’ as he called it, disappointed the conservatives who were hoping for a more partisan justice. ‘No more Souters’ has been the right’s rallying cry ever since, which we have seen reflected in the extremist and unethical conservative majority we have today. Would that more of today’s jurists had the same commitment to equal justice under the law.”
