Brennan Cloture Vote Prelude to ‘Point of No Return’

WASHINGTON, D.C., May 9, 2018 – Following today’s Senate vote to invoke cloture on Michael Brennan, Donald Trump’s nominee for a seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, AFJ President Nan Aron released the following statement:

“This vote on Michael Brennan’s nomination marks a new low in Republican senators’ abuse of power and their subversion of rules and norms in the judicial nominations process. The Senate is set to confirm a judicial nominee over the objection of one of his or her home-state senators. When that line is crossed,  it will be a point of no return for the Senate.  We expect Democrats will not take this action lightly now or in the future.”
