Biography
Harold Dean Mooty III earned his B.S. in the University of Alabama in 2001-2005 and his J.D. from the University of Alabama School of Law in 2005-2008.
Legal Experience
Harold Dean Mooty III began his legal career as a summer associate with Mooty & Associates, P.C. (2005), Ball Ball Matthews & Novak, P.A. (2006), and Lanier Ford Shaver & Payne, P.C. (2006 and 2007). After graduating, he joined Lanier Ford as an associate (2008–2012) while also serving as an instructor at the University of Alabama College of Communication & Information Services in Spring 2008.
In 2012, he joined Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP as an associate. He was promoted to partner in 2017 and continues to practice at the firm today.
Key Facts
Mooty defended the medical director of the Madison County Jail in lawsuits alleging federal civil rights violations and state-law medical malpractice stemming from inadequate medical care provided to incarcerated individuals. These cases involved serious harm and death, including a woman who died after falling from her bunk, another who died from untreated abdominal pain, and another who allegedly suffered a fatal pulmonary embolism. Additional claims included a woman who became permanently blind and partially paralyzed due to a medical complication, and another individual who was hospitalized for several days with confusion, delusions, and hallucinations attributed to negligent medical treatment while in custody.
