Advocates for Youth Continues to Strive After Major Change

In the face of harmful federal executive orders targeting DEI and gender identity, Advocates for Youth made the bold decision to end a nearly 40-year partnership with the U.S. government, refusing to compromise its commitment to reproductive, gender, and racial justice. Despite the loss of federal funding, the organization has thrived, continuing to uplift youth voices and lead impactful work.

In April, Advocates hosted a powerful National Youth HIV & AIDS Awareness Day campaign, featuring youth-led events, including drag shows and candid conversations addressing HIV stigma, particularly affecting young Black trans women. In May, they launched The Busybodies Club, a national digital campaign to combat misinformation and educate young people on sexual health in accessible, engaging ways. Across the country, youth activists — supported by Advocates — championed state legislation on issues ranging from condom access in North Carolina schools to emergency contraception on Connecticut college campuses.

Meanwhile, Advocates for Youth’s sex education team continued expanding and customizing their 3R’s curriculum in school districts nationwide. With or without federal support, Advocates for Youth remains unwavering in its mission to advance the health, rights, and justice of young people.
