Chief Judge Catherine Eagles of the Middle District of North Carolina, who presided over the criminal trial of former senator and presidential candidate John Edwards, will take senior status at the end of the year.

Judge Eagles has been on the bench since 2010 and was the first female district judge for her court, according to the Alliance for Justice. She previously served on the North Carolina Superior Court and worked in private practice, her Federal Judicial Center biography states.
