At ThinkProgress.org, he became a leading voice on LGBTQ issues and daily political developments, offering clear-eyed analysis and unapologetic advocacy in equal measure. His work gained a loyal following for its clarity, heart, and commitment to justice —qualities he now channels into AFJ’s public communications.

In his personal capacity he has written compelling pieces, including Opinion: Take it from an adoptee — choice is what matters and The seemingly benign phrase ‘parental rights’ hides a dangerous, anti-democratic, Christian nationalist movement. And some of his best journalism pieces tackle complicated subjects with a clear voice — The pernicious junk science stalking trans kids and No, We Cannot Weep Together.
But there’s so much more to Zack than his way with words. Outside of work, he’s an accomplished accompanist who directs musicals and leads a regular showtunes karaoke night at Sid Gold’s in D.C., where his musical chops and theatrical flair are on full display. His ability to connect with audiences — whether through music, media, or social platforms— makes him a powerful communicator in every sense of the word.
