On April 30, 2024, President Biden nominated Stacey D. Neumann to the United States District Court for the District of Maine. Neumann’s esteemed legal career as a public defender, prosecutor, and private practitioner uniquely position her to understand the complexities of our legal system and to ensure equal access to justice for all.

Biography

Neumann received her B.A. from James Madison University in 2000 and her  J.D. from Cornell Law School in 2005.

Legal Experience

Shortly after law school, Neumann was a staff attorney at the Vermont Office of the Defender General in Chittenden County from 2007 to 2009. Her litigation experience is multifaceted and extensive. With more than a decade of trial experience, she focuses on federal and state white-collar and other criminal defense, employment law, civil rights, and the collegiate disciplinary process, including Title IX investigations.

Professional Activities and Accolades

Neumann is an invited faculty member of the Harvard Law School Trial Advocacy Program,  a member of the Criminal Justice Act (CJA) Selection Panel Committee for the District of Maine, and an attorney member of the CJA Panel.

Neumann also serves on the:

  • Criminal Rules Committee for the District of Maine.
  • Board of the Maine Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers
  • Board of Governors of the Maine State Bar Association.
  • Maine Employment Lawyers Association
  • National Employment Lawyers’ Association,
  • Edward Gignoux Inn of Court, and the
  • Federal, Maine, American, and Cumberland County Bar Associations.

She has previously served as an adjunct professor at the University of New England.
