On June 12, 2024, President Biden nominated Laura M. Provinzino to the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota. She was confirmed on September 12, 2024.


Biography

Provinzino earned a B.A., with honors, from Lewis & Clark College in 1998, a B.A, from Oxford University, where she attended as a Rhodes Scholar, and a J.D. from Yale Law School in 2003.

Legal Experience

After law school, Provinzino clerked for Judge Diana E. Murphy on the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. Following her clerkship, Provinzino served as the Wellstone Legal Fellow at Advocates for Human Rights, and then worked as a litigation associate at Robins Kaplan LLC.

Since 2010, Provinzino has worked as an Assistant U.S. Attorney at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the District of Minnesota, where she was promoted to the position of Chief of Major Crimes and Priority Prosecutions, as well as the Human Trafficking Coordinator. In her role, she leads the prosecution of high-profile human trafficking perpetrators, crimes against Native American women, child pornography, and violent criminal offenses. In recognition of her successful prosecution of a major international sex trafficking network, Provinzino was awarded the 2023 Attorney General’s David Margolis Award for Exceptional Service, the highest-ranking award for employee achievement bestowed by the Justice Department.
