On April 01, 2026, President Trump nominated Arthur “Rob” Jones to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas. 

Biography

Jones received a B.A. from Indiana University in 1991 and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1994.

Legal Experience

Jones began his legal career in the United States Air Force, starting off as an assistant staff judge advocate in 1995 in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps. While on active duty in the Air Force, Jones practiced a limited amount of civil and administrative law, primarily from 1995 to 1997. From 1997 to 2002, he served as a defense counsel in the Air Force, where typical clients included members of the Air Force accused of criminal misconduct. He also represented Air Force members facing administrative or other non-criminal disciplinary actions.

Jones was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 2002 and became an Assistant United States Attorney in the Laredo Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas. He then joined the Houston Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, first as the assistant U.S. attorney from 2011-2021, then as the deputy criminal chief from 2021-2025, before transitioning to his current role as executive assistant U.S. attorney in 2025.

In 2025, Jones became one of two Executive Assistant United States Attorneys in the office, where his duties include advising the district’s prosecutors on matters related to legal and government ethics and professional responsibility.
