Take Kavanaugh’s ABA Rating with a Grain of Salt
WASHINGTON, D.C., August 31, 2018 – Following the American Bar Association’s announcement that it has given Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh a “well qualified” rating, Alliance for Justice President Nan Aron released the following statement:
“We’re not surprised by the ABA rating for Kavanaugh, but we’re not placing much stock in it. Let’s remember that the ABA also gave good ratings to other Trump nominees who were forced to withdraw because of their extremist views. The ABA review is by tradition very limited; while it can establish a basic level of qualifications for a nominee it is far from a definitive evaluation. And since a number of leading Republicans have said exactly that over the years, it will be very interesting to see if they rush to embrace the ABA rating with both arms now, when it serves them.”
