WASHINGTON, DC, May 14, 2020 – Today Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to advance the nomination of Stephen Schwartz to the Court of Federal Claims. The Court of Federal Claims, called “the People’s Court,” is an important court that hears monetary claims against the United States deriving from the Constitution, federal statutes, regulations and government contracts.  Schwartz has shown contempt for critical government agencies and programs such as Social Security and other essential social and health programs, as well as the people they serve.

Alliance for Justice President Nan Aron released the following statement:

“It’s infuriating that these Republican senators are supporting judicial nominees who will cause such harm to their constituents. Stephen Schwartz believes that those who access important programs like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid are ‘less than fully mature adults.’ These programs provide a critical safety net to ensure basic survival for millions of people, yet Schwartz believes they are “harmful” and not ‘a worthwhile goal for the government to undertake.’”
