WASHINGTON, D.C., March 23, 2017 – As confirmation hearings for Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch draw to a close and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer joins the ranks of Democrats who have concluded that Gorsuch is not qualified for a seat on the Court, Alliance for Justice President Nan Aron has the following statement:

“We applaud Senator Schumer for his strong leadership in opposing the nomination of Judge Gorsuch and continuing to maintain that a 60-vote Senate threshold is a reasonable bar for a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court. Our research shows that Americans agree with this 60-vote standard. We would strongly oppose any action by Senate Democrats that would undermine Sen. Schumer’s position, which would be a grave disservice to the process and to the Constitution.”
