WASHINGTON, D.C., January 22, 2019 – Following today’s Supreme Court rulings that rejected the Trump Administration’s request to hear immediate challenges to its transgender military ban but also allowed the ban to go into effect pending further litigation, AFJ President Nan Aron released the following statement:

“We stand with our allies in the LGBTQ rights community who are fighting this discriminatory and misguided ban on transgender service members. The Supreme Court’s decision to let the ban be enforced needlessly harms Americans who are serving their country and sends a terrible message of exclusion and bigotry. We are very concerned that the Court as it is now constituted, with two Trump appointees, is poised to roll back rights for the LGBTQ community as well as millions of other individuals, and we will be watching closely.”
