Porter Vote Part of “Hostile Takeover” of Federal Judiciary

WASHINGTON, D.C., July 19, 2018 – Following today’s Senate Judiciary Committee vote to advance the nomination of David Porter, Donald Trump’s nominee for a seat on Third Circuit Court of Appeals, AFJ President Nan Aron released the following statement:

“David Porter’s nomination is moving ahead over the strong objections of his home-state senator, Senator Bob Casey, as well as the objections of thousands of Pennsylvanians. We can’t say it enough; while the Supreme Court nomination of Brett Kavanaugh is grabbing headlines, the Trump Administration and Senate Republicans are pursuing court-packing at every level. This attempt at a hostile takeover of our federal judiciary by the hard-right can’t be ignored, because it could shape all our lives for decades.”
