Oppose Amul Thapar for the Sixth Circuit

WASHINGTON, D.C., May 9, 2017  – Following the return of federal judicial nominee Amul Thapar’s responses to written questions of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Alliance for Justice President Nan Aron issued the following statement about pending Senate action on his nomination for the U.S. District Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit:   

“Unfortunately, Judge Thapar’s answers to follow-up questions submitted after his confirmation hearing do nothing to alleviate concerns about his record. Judge Thapar fundamentally misunderstood and misapplied the law in a key case involving campaign ethics and finance, and he has repeatedly ruled to deny citizens’ access to justice and weakened critical legal protections. We believe Judge Thapar should not be confirmed to sit on the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, and urge senators to oppose this nomination.”
