A sharply divided U.S. Senate on Wednesday confirmed Eumi Lee to the U.S. District Court for Northern California, ending an eight-month process that required President Joe Biden to renominate the Alameda County trial judge.


Left-leaning groups, including the Alliance for Justice and the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, praised Lee’s nomination to the federal bench. But she ran into criticism from Republicans during her Senate Judiciary Committee hearing for being a board member of the Asian Law Caucus, which supported affirmative action policies.
