WASHINGTON, D.C., June 26, 2018 – Following today’s 5 to 4 Supreme Court ruling in Trump v. Hawaii, in which the Court upheld President Trump’s ban on U.S. travel for nationals of several predominantly Muslim countries, AFJ President Nan Aron released the following statement:
“Today’s ruling in favor of xenophobia and religious discrimination is in fundamental conflict with American values and will not be accepted in silence. Our Constitution’s promise of religious freedom has been a cornerstone of our democracy for over 200 years. The Trump Administration can’t erase that history. We are confident that this ruling, as painful as it is in this moment, will be a wake-up call that will galvanize people across the country to stand up for values of freedom and equality that have always guided us in difficult times and will guide us to a better place than we find ourselves in today.”
