When Judge McGlynn chaired the state Republican Party, he helped write the 2004 party platform, which one Illinois conservative called “the most comprehensively pro-life platform in the nation,” according to the progressive Alliance for Justice, which opposed both nominees over their stances on abortion. The judge told senators the platform was a “collective decision” rather than his personal views. He also briefly joined the Illinois Federation for Right to Life, which he told senators he only joined to vote for his brother as a board member.
