Gorsuch Nomination Should Not Go Forward
WASHINGTON, D.C., March 22, 2017 – Following the second full day of questioning of Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch, and on the same day that the Supreme Court ruled in a school disabilities case that served as a stern rebuke to a prior Gorsuch ruling on the rights of students with disabilities, Alliance for Justice President Nan Aron issued the following statement:
“Today’s unanimous Supreme Court ruling confirmed what we already knew about Neil Gorsuch: he does not share the values of most Americans, and has a history of especially harsh rulings on the rights of people with disabilities. It is notable that every single member of the current Supreme Court – including the most conservative – effectively rejected the position Gorsuch staked out on this issue. Meanwhile, Gorsuch and the Trump administration continue to pretend that he is a mainstream candidate, and his evasion of questions about his legal philosophy is even more unsatisfactory tonight than it was last night. This nomination should not go forward.”
