WASHINGTON, D.C., April 24, 2018 – Following today’s Senate vote to confirm Stuart Kyle Duncan to a seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, AFJ President Nan Aron released the following statement:

“The GOP-led Senate’s decision to rubber-stamp another unsuitable Trump judicial nominee, Kyle Duncan, will be a severe blow to the rights and freedoms of people living and working in the Fifth Circuit. Duncan has a record of working on behalf of voter suppression, against women’s rights to reproductive healthcare including contraception, and against equal rights for LGBTQ individuals. He is one of five people whom Trump has nominated for the Fifth Circuit, which is being rapidly converted by this Administration into the most reactionary circuit in the country and which stands to get even worse if this Senate confirms more of Trump’s Fifth Circuit picks.”
