Bloomberg Law: Progressives Face Long Odds Against Trump Judicial Nominations

A sizable Republican Senate majority that’s largely approved Trump’s picks means the best Democrats can do for now is use procedural roadblocks to slow nominations.
Progressive groups are conducting opposition research on Trump’s initial nominees and future contenders while holding off for now on interrupting hearings or other attention-grabbing stunts that aren’t likely to have much impact on the outcome.
“It’s an uphill battle when you’ve got a Senate and a Congress that seems to have abdicated their responsibilities of serving as a check and a balance on the current administration,” said Jake Faleschini, justice program director at Alliance for Justice.

Groups such as Demand Justice and Alliance for Justice said they’re delving into the backgrounds of Trump’s first slate of judicial picks, which include one for the US Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and four for Missouri’s St. Louis-based US trial court.
