After Cohen Plea, “Enough Is Enough”
WASHINGTON, D.C., August 21, 2018 – Following today’s guilty plea by former Trump attorney Michael Cohen, as well as the conviction of former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort, AFJ President Nan Aron released the following statement:
“Today we saw something unique in American history: an admission by a felon in open court that he committed his crimes at the direction of a person who is now the President of the United States. Enough is enough. There is no way the Chairman of the Judiciary Committee can justify going forward with a confirmation hearing for a Supreme Court nominee who has made it clear he opposes investigations and indictments of sitting presidents, especially when there is a likelihood that legal proceedings against the President himself could someday reach the Supreme Court, and when the vast bulk of the nominee’s records remain obscured from the Senate and public. Donald Trump may be debasing the office of the Presidency every day but his term won’t last forever; the American people won’t stand for our justice system to be debased by a cynical confirmation process.”
