AFJ Statement on Election of Graham as SJC Chairman

WASHINGTON, D.C., January 9, 2019 – Following Sen. Lindsey Graham’s official election tonight to the chairmanship of the Senate Judiciary Committee, AFJ President Nan Aron released the following statement:

“The Judiciary Committee is in desperate need of a course correction. For two years now the committee has seen its customs, its rules and its comity shredded by the actions of its former chairman, Sen. Grassley. As chairman Sen. Graham can choose to continue down that reckless path, which included rubber-stamping the judicial nominations of many unfit people. Or he can restore sanity and seriousness to the way the committee does business. We’re not very optimistic about the direction he will take, but we’ll see what happens once he takes the gavel.”
