AFJ Letter of Support for Mónica Ramírez Almadani
The Honorable Richard Durbin
Chairman
Senate Judiciary Committee
Dear Chairman Durbin:
On behalf of the Alliance for Justice (AFJ), a national association representing over 150 public interest and civil rights organizations, I write to support the confirmation of Mónica Ramírez Almadani for the United States District Court for the Central District of California.
Born and raised in California, Ms. Ramírez Almadani is prepared to serve in her home state. After graduating cum laude from the Harvard College in 2001 and earning her J.D. from Stanford Law School in 2004, Ms. Ramírez Almadani clerked for the Honorable Warren J. Ferguson of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Her subsequent career as a civil rights and immigration rights litigator, as a Department of Justice official, and as the President and CEO of Public Counsel, the largest public interest law firm in the country, has prepared her well for serving as a District Judge for the Central District of California.
Ms. Ramírez Almadani has spent much of her career ensuring that our laws are applied fairly to all. Her career defending the rights of marginalized communities reflects her fierce dedication to the rule of law and equal justice for all. Ms. Ramírez Almadani joined the faculty at University of California, Irvine School of Law as a full-time Visiting Assistant Clinical Professor of Law and the Co-Director of the Immigrant Rights Clinic, where she teaches the next generation of attorneys to fight for particularly vulnerable clients. Given her exemplary legal talent and qualifications, the Senate should expeditiously confirm Ms. Ramírez Almadani to the United States District Court for the Central District of California.
Sincerely,
Rakim Brooks
President, Alliance for Justice
