AFJ Applauds Judiciary Democrats’ Report

WASHINGTON, D.C., May 10, 2018 – Today the Senate Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Dianne Feinstein, joined by all Democratic members of the committee, released a report highlighting abuses of the judicial nominations process under Senate Republicans. AFJ President Nan Aron released the following statement:

“This report represents a strong statement by Judiciary Committee Democrats and a great show of leadership by the Ranking Member, Sen. Feinstein. In stark detail, it lays out the numerous ways in which Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley and Republicans have run roughshod over the Senate’s ‘advise and consent’ role in judicial nominations in order to push through confirmation of narrow-minded, hard-right, and often unqualified nominees. The report should serve as a wake-up call for the entire Senate: it’s time to stop this headlong rush to pack the courts with ideologues and return to a process of bipartisan consultation and respect for the constitutional role of senators in the confirmation process.”
