WASHINGTON, D.C., March 10, 2021 – Today the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Federal Courts, Oversight, Agency Action and Federal Rights is holding a hearing on, “What’s Wrong with the Supreme Court: The Big-Money Assault on Our Judiciary.” Alliance for Justice has long fought the corporate, conservative effort to take over the courts, including publishing the notable 1993 report Justice for Sale, and lauds Chairman Sheldon Whitehouse for convening this important hearing.
Alliance for Justice President Nan Aron issued the following statement:
“For decades, corporate control of the courts has been growing, and over the past four years, we saw the culmination of that effort as the Federalist Society handpicked ultraconservative judicial nominees for the Trump administration. These judges had disturbing records indicating their intent to protect wealthy and powerful interests over the rights of all. In opinion after opinion, they have attacked hard-won protections for everyday Americans, turning back the clock on freedoms we all deserve. Given these judges will serve for decades to come, we have barely scratched the surface of the damage they will do.
We absolutely must push back against the ideological corporate takeover of our courts. Hopefully today is only the first of many steps to protect equal justice from the ultraconservative partisan agenda.”
