AFJ Applauds Electronic Courts Record Reform Act

WASHINGTON, D.C., February 13, 2019 – Following today’s introduction in the House of the bipartisan Electronic Courts Record Reform Act, AFJ President Nan Aron released the following statement:

“This bill is long overdue. It has always been an affront to our democratic principles to charge fees to members of the public who want to view public federal court records online. That’s why Alliance for Justice along with other advocates for transparency and consumer rights challenged the PACER fee structure in court. This bill would make the records available at no charge, which would be a win for the public, for transparency and for democracy, and we urge Congress to pass it.”
