Bradbury Nomination an “Offense to All Who Care About Human Rights”
Washington, D.C., June 23, 2017 – In response to the Trump administration’s nomination of Steven Bradbury, a former Justice Department official who wrote the infamous “torture memos” authorizing the abuse of detainees, to the position of General Counsel of Transportation, Alliance for Justice President Nan Aron issued the following statement:
“This nomination is an offense to all who care about human rights and the rule of law. Steven Bradbury deserves to be prosecuted, not promoted to a government office, for the record he has amassed in his career. His indefensible work justifying torture went a long way toward damaging respect for the United States around the world, not to mention the suffering that was inflicted on human beings. Once again Donald Trump has tapped a person who is wholly unfit for public service, proving that Trump has low or no standards when it comes to his nominees’ records for respecting the rights of others and embracing core values of our democracy.”
