Washington, DC, June 12, 2017 – Alliance for Justice today released a report on the record of Kevin Newsom, an attorney nominated by Donald Trump to a seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. Based on AFJ’s research on Newsom’s record, AFJ President Nan Aron released the following statement:

“The burden is on Kevin Newsom to provide satisfactory answers to a number of outstanding questions about his record. Our concerns are focused on Newsom’s work in the areas of the death penalty, civil rights, rights of those harmed by corporate wrongdoing, and substantive due process – which is a key area of the law for women and LGBTQ Americans, among others. Newsom must demonstrate that if confirmed, he will faithfully apply the Constitution and the law and uphold rights and legal protections for all, and senators must press him on these points at Wednesday’s hearing.”

Newsom will face a confirmation hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, June 14, along with two other nominees for the federal bench, John Bush and Damien Schiff.
