Gorsuch Ducks While GOP Charges Ahead

WASHINGTON, D.C., March 21, 2017 – On the first full day of questioning of Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch by the Senate Judiciary Committee, Alliance for Justice President Nan Aron issued the following statement:

“Judge Gorsuch’s determination to avoid answering relevant questions today is matched only by Republicans’ determination to jam this nomination through as quickly as possible. While the Trump administration sinks deeper into controversy about alleged Russian meddling in U.S. affairs, the Senate GOP leadership wants to push this embattled president’s judge over the finish line before the next crisis erupts. Nothing could be more irresponsible right now, when an independent judiciary is needed more than ever. Democratic Senators must continue to call Judge Gorsuch out on his unsatisfactory answers to questions about issues including national security, reproductive rights, money in politics, gun safety, and his ability to be truly independent of Donald Trump.”
