Nominee to the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California
On October 23, 2024, President Biden announced his intent to nominate Judge Serena Murillo to the United States District Court for the Central District of California.
Biography
Murillo currently serves as a judge on the Superior Court of Los Angeles. She graduated with her J.D. from Loyola Law School in 1996, and her B.A. from the University of California, San Diego in 1993.
Legal Experience
After graduating law school in 1996, Murillo worked as an attorney at McNicholas & McNicholas, a prominent plaintiff-side firm in Los Angeles. In 1997, she joined the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, where she served as a Deputy District Attorney until 2014. Murillo was appointed a Judge of the Los Angeles Superior Court in 2015. From 2018-2019, Murillo served as a Justice Pro Tem on the California Court of Appeal, Second Appellate District.
As a Latina woman, Murillo will bring valued demographic diversity to the Central District of California. Murillo has previously served as the Co-Chair of the Los Angeles Superior Court Latino Judicial Officers Association and is the President-elect of California Women Judges.
