On June 12, 2024, President Biden nominated Judge Noël Wise to the United States District Court for the Northern District of California.


Biography

Wise currently serves as a judge on the Superior Court of California in Alameda County. She graduated with her B.S. from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 1989, her J.D., cum laude, from Nova Southeastern University Law School in 1993, and her J.S.M. from Stanford Law School in 2002, where she also worked as a teaching fellow.

Legal Experience

After graduating law school, Wise clerked for Justice Harry L. Anstead of the Florida Fourth District Court of Appeals. In 1994, she entered the United States Department of Justice Honors Program in Washington D.C. There, she served as a trial attorney in the Environmental and Natural Resources Division until 2002. From 1997 – 1998, she was detailed to serve as an Assistant United States Attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of California.

Wise entered private practice in 2002, joining San Francisco firm Stoel Rives LLP. After two years as Of Counsel, she started working for Pacific Gas and Electric Company, serving as in-house counsel. In 2006, Wise co-founded the firm Wise Gleicher, where she worked as a partner for eight years.

Judicial Experience

In 2014, Wise was appointed to the Superior Court of California in Alameda County and was promoted to Supervising Judge in 2019. From 2021 – 2022, Wise served as a Judge Pro Tem for the California Second District Court of Appeal.
