Wyrick Vote is Bad News for Environmental Protection

WASHINGTON, D.C., June 14, 2018 – Following today’s party-line vote in the Senate Judiciary Committee to advance the nomination of Patrick Wyrick for a seat on the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma, AFJ President Nan Aron released the following statement:

“Patrick Wyrick has a terrible record on the environment. He is well known in Oklahoma for working closely with Scott Pruitt to oppose environmental protections and to act as a liaison between the oil and gas lobby and state government. If he is confirmed to the federal bench, clean air, clean water and outdoor spaces will be at serious risk. Our concerns are made even greater by the fact that this vote was rushed forward before Wyrick had even been given the customary ABA rating, and by the fact that Donald Trump has included Wyrick on his Supreme Court short list.”
